PiP were appointed to redevelop this site, which lies within the Central Conservation Area of Cambridge in order to convert the existing building (a Building of Local Interest) from it’s current use as three self-contained flats back in to a single family home.
The brief was to create a sustainable and contemporary design which respects the character of the local conservation area but stands out for it’s own architectural merits. The clients proactive and open minded approach has led to a highly sustainable and contemporary envelope to cater for their family needs.
Careful consideration has been taken, based on the local area, to create a palette of materials that will blend in sensitively to their proposed location within the conservation area.
The proposed materials have been chosen to create a sensitive composition with the existing traditional materials. This has been done carefully, choosing colours and textures that will both complement and enhance the existing building and its context.
The proposed materials have robust natural earthy tones which enrich the tan and terracotta gault brickwork, adding additional texture and colour to the rear elevation.
Hung brick and anthra zinc cladding to the ground floor will provide a solid base to the extensions, with the corten and sedum bringing seasonal variation, living and breathing with the ambient environment.
