This development of four luxury family homes in the heart of Chesterton won a Silver in the WhatHouse? Awards for Best House in the country and has been shortlisted for national awards from the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and Brick Development Association.

The houses, built on what was the site of one 1950s detached house, provide open plan living across split-level floors, each one designed to allow natural daylight to flood through the houses from the southern elevations at every level. A monopitch roof was incorporated with offset floor plans, benefiting from each floor level having a small roof terrace along with two-tier gardens providing flexibility in how occupants use their amenity spaces.

Corner windows were placed to the front with more traditional arrangement to the rear to ensure outlook is direct in to each private garden. Incorporation of solar hot water panels on south facing roofs allowed for the provision of adequate output for the hot water demand. While very modern in design, the houses sit comfortably within the conservation area, with linear bricks creating a textured façade and a brick wall to the front taking its cue from the Conservation Area Appraisal. It is also a great example of how we have applied innovation in integrating technology into its architectural design.
